Life in the Catalyst Intensive Week 7 -- "Safe"

Life in the Catalyst Intensive Week 7 -- "Safe"

This week we went through John Kim’s Two-Way Mirror class and I learned a few things. First, it was very interesting watching a live coaching session. I really enjoyed seeing him in action and learned to really listen. I learned you have to listen, think, and listen some more. Another important thing I learned was that you have to ask questions to get the client to think about their situation and ask them questions that get them to really dig deep. These two things were great learning experiences for myself but the main thing that hit me in the gut was that moment where I realized I need safe relationships. This entire session made me realized how important safe relationships really are.

Safe: defined in Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary

1. Free from harm or risk-unhurt
2. Secure from threat or danger, harm or loss
3. Affording safety or security from danger, risk, or difficulty

After hearing about safe relationships it really hit me: I have to feel safe before a relationship can really form. I know that if I do not feel safe then trust will never be there. I think as adults we know we want safe relationships, but we tend to not talk about them as much as we should. I feel it’s one of those things that goes unspoken. Looking back at relationships I have had, I realize now more than ever on why they didn’t work out. (Duh Lacey it’s because you didn’t feel safe). This being said I could not or did not let trust form. I realize more now than ever that safety is so important and I need to be more aware of this in my life. Safety is a feeling you get and should know if this feeling is there from the get go. I am not just talking about safety with a partner, but safety in all relationships. I plan to be more aware and know exactly what makes me feel safe in future relationships. If safety is not there from the beginning, I will tell myself that I cannot put time and effort into something that will never be.

Feeling safe is the beginning of a potential great relationship!
